Blaze

Chapter One page 7

Autumn Provides

A year had passed whereas Autumn now called Blaze ‘Mother’. Unfortunately her relationship with Matthew was still estranged. Autumn was watching her mother prepare their breakfast when she began to reminisce.
Recalling the day, six months ago, how she and her father watched as Blaze commanded a fire ball to break off and fetch wood from the forest. Obeying, the fireball resembled a dog panting as it waited for the next command. “Become the master wood carver.”  The fireball cut, carved, designed, and coated a glazed finish, of 12 magnificent pieces of various sizes of wooden frames.
Father and daughter both awestruck, impatiently anticipated her reasons for creating the frames. Leaving the small living area, Blaze entered Autumn’s bedroom, Her father gave her a puzzled look. What seemed like forever, really took only minutes. Blaze emerged holding all eleven of Autumn’s art work. Her heart started pounding afraid of her father’s reaction to her artwork. She turned and saw her father’s eyes showed first annoyance than admiration. Autumn noticed her father’s eyes fill with water and she breathed out a quick sigh. Matthew never knew his daughter had such talent. Matthew’s gazed at Autumn and he saw his daughter again for the first time in two years.

Six of the portraits were of her father in various settings and the other five were made of the town’s store and owner, Mrs. Allister and her colossal home, the quaint church, the beautiful garden her mother had planted, and the picture of a man, from her own imagination, standing in a meadow waving. Looking at the art she realized that Blaze had made 12 frames. “Mother why did you make 12 frames?”  “I have my reasons child, all will reveal itself in due time.” “What does that mean?” Asked a confused Autumn. “You will know when the time is right.”  “It’s clear Mom is not going to give me the information.” Autumn thought. “Alright I get it mother, I’ll drop the issue.”

She decided to draw a forbidden picture.

Blaze:To Blaze Aboard The Matter Page 6

Blaze
…to blaze abroad the matter…

Chapter One page 6

Autumn Provides

Returning back to reality, Matthew stared at the she-devil called Blaze. He was seething at the witch who was responsible for his quandary. Matthew could only watch as she prepared the evening meal. If he was a praying man he would have prayed for the chance to slit Blaze’s throat. He looked over to the jar that housed a fireball holding the side of his left brain. His hatred for this interfering creature grew more and more each day.
Matthew didn’t understand why his superior, Guston, who visited him that morning; couldn’t see the fiery jar, nor did he acknowledge the presence of Blaze.
This was strange because Blaze was lit up like a Christmas tree today while she stood adding built-in bookshelves and craving out a niche for Autumn to complete her class work and drawings. Although Blaze waved her hand as if using magic to add the shelves, desk, table and chairs, she was making a lot of noise.
Guston checked on his underling wondering why Matthew hadn’t made his usual rounds. Matthew understood this puny tax collector needed his brute strength to persuade the town’s people to pay double on their taxes. Matthew was painfully aware that eventually, Guston would be forced out of town, being deprived of his protection. When Guston entered Matthew’s quaint domain, He knew the moment he saw the horrid specimen sitting with a twisted face, that it was a lost cause. Guston uttered not one word, he simply backed out of Matthew's home. He realized his plan to offer Matthew more gold, would be to no avail. The soaring gigantic man was nothing more than a large lump of nothing.

Six months later Guston was gone.
